Yohan Cabaye Is a Transfer Target of Serie A

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew could face another transfer tug-of-war over Yohan Cabaye in January.

High-flying Roma have identified the Magpies’ France midfielder as the player they want to strengthen their squad to help them maintain their challenge for the Italian title.

Roma boss Rudi Garcia is willing to make a £12million offer for Cabaye, who played under him at French club Lille for three years – winning the league and cup Double in 2011 – before being sold to the Toon.

The 27-year-old was unsettled by Arsenal’s interest in the summer, but ended up staying at St James’ Park and has since rediscovered some of his best form.

Newcastle rejected Arsenal’s approach, and £12m is unlikely to be enough to tempt them to sell to Roma.

But the Italians, whose team’s remarkable 10-game winning streak to start the season ended on Sunday as they drew with Torino, are now watching developments closely as they look to bring in a central midfielder.

Ideally, they want a loan deal with a fixed price to make it permanent, but that would seem unlikely.

Roma will look to Tottenham duo Sandro and Lewis Holtby if they cannot bring in Cabaye.

They have strong links with Tottenham’s deal-maker Franco Baldini, which may help, and are determined to raid the Premier League to strengthen their squad in January.
