Black Cats want England man Rodwell on Loan

Sunderland are apparently set to make a loan bid for Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell when the January transfer window opens, according to Sports Direct News.

The 22-year-old has struggled to make a name for himself at the Eithad since his 2012 switch from Everton, and new Mackems boss Gus Poyet has targeted the England international as the ideal man to put his new vision for the club into practice.

“Jack’s one of a number of players who could come in and do a decent job for us,” commented a senior insider at Sunderland.

“He’s become something of a forgotten man at City. But his midfield qualities are well known – and we have a real need for quality players in our engine room.”

Poyet’s side currently lie at the bottom of the table and he claimed recently that he would be looking towards recruits that can boast more Premier League experience when the window opens for business.

Poyet will also be hoping that the prospect of kick starting his career will appeal to Rodwell and a starting role in midfield that has looked depleted ever since Stephane Sessegnon departed for West Bromwich Albion over the summer.
